The blessing of the new pitch in Ballycomey followed by the celebration of the 125th Anniversary mass took place in a sun drenched Ballycomey on Friday evening 20th August. A big crowd turned out for this very special occasion. The Blessing of the new all weather pitch was first up. Msngr Ryan, Canon Sherlock, Fr Corcoran and Fr Shore all took part in this blessing. The man above certainly played his part as the evening was sunshine all the way.
The Mass followed after the blessing and several club members took part, young and old, to make this a very special night in the long history of Erin’s Own GAA club. Chairman, Michael Owens concluded the official part of the night giving special praise to all who participated including the Male Voice Choir. Finally a big thanks went out to Sean Smith for all his work in keeping the place so well. It was over to the Ladies of the club then to produce a feast of food for all. Well done to every person for donating so much food, and to all the ladies that worked long and hard to ensure all were heartily fed.
Finally Thanks and well done to all who had any part in this successful night. 125 years is a long time in the lifetime of any association and something to be very proud of. The mantle of its success is now passed over to the current and future generations to ensure that Erin’s Own continues to make strides both on and off te field of play and ensure that this clubs participation in all that is good in Castlecomer and its environs continues for many years to come.
