26th Dec 2009 – Over 30 hardy souls turned up for a single vs married hurling match in Ballycomey – either that or it was for the “refreshments” afterwards!. Either way it was a great turn out, and in good 2009, ‘Comer form – the match ended in a draw. The conditions were not great due to the recent frost so a temporary pitch was put together at the rear of the clubhouse. Captain of the singles was a very experienced “single” the ledgendary Joe Coogan. His team talk rallied his men to a strong first half performance to give the single men a 2 goal lead at half time. The married men came back in the second half and their stamina was showing strong but for a late goal for the singles that drew the match. Score of the game went to Joe coogan for his incredible double – a goal and the ball into Paddy Codys car through the front window. Thankfully the window was down at the time. Needless to say Paddy found a better parking spot thereafter.

 

A few refreshments were had in the dressing room afterwards followed up by tea and breakfast rolls for all present. Well done to chief organiser Peter O’Donovan and to all the players and supporters that turned up.

Take note that a preliminary date of Saturday 13th February has been put aside for the Club Dinner Dance. More in this to follow in the coming weeks.

Thanks to all of you who were able to help last weekend in the Bord na nOg bag pack. We managed to raise €4,532 over the 3 days. Well done to all. Also running at the same time was the Club Christmas draw. Approximately €1,500 was raised here totalling to about €6,000

 

Finally a happy Christmas to all our members and your families and here’s hoping for a successful 2010.

The Bord na nOg hold their annual bag pack this week in Tesco, Carlow on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. There are 3 shifts throughout the day and help is needed throughout. Please contact John on 087 2299555 to offer your support as this is one of the primary fund raisers to help support and manage our under age teams.

There is a Joint meeting of the main committee and the BOrd na nOg commitee on Tuesday 15th December at 8.30pm. The forthcoming bag pack will be top of the agenda.

He came, we saw and he conquered!! What a party. The man himself arrived with presents galore on hand for over 70 children. The party got going at 2.30pm and well done to all involved in what was a great afternoon for all involved. Plenty of food and drink was available for young and old and after the music and games Santa appeared in the horizon. Arriving with flashing lights in a Garda Jeep he was greeted by adoring kids and as usual he didn’t disappoint. He had 4 sack loads of presents and  it was time for the main man to get to work. He gave time to each person, knew everyones name, as expected, and was available for lots of photo’s. He went on his merry way back to the North Pole for the last few days build up to Christmas Eve.

Erins own U 14 team have qualified for the 3rd round of the country cup after defeating Danesfort at Ballycomey on Sunday. In a game that was played in near arctic conditions the comer boys should their class and commitment to eventually gain the upper hand in this hard fought encounter. Leading by a single point 4 pts to 1 goal at ½ time and after playing with a strong breeze, the comer boys dug deep in the second half to finish 4:6 to 1:1 winners. Scores were hard to come by in the first half in a tight and congested game. In the second half the game opened up with the comer boys gradually taken control . The committee of Erin’s Own Bord Na nÓg are organising our third Annual Christmas Party for all our young members (boys and girls from under 10 down) on Saturday the 12th December at the club rooms in Ballycomey. The party will start at 2.30 pm and will finish around 5.00 pm.

It is planned to have Santa Claus in attendance with presents for all the children also. The cost is €10.00 per child. We need this information by Wednesday the 9th December. If there is another child in your house who is not a juvenile member but would like to attend, they are more than welcome also but please contact me so as to make arrangements to include them also in the present list.
