Ballycomey hosted its first senior game since the recent development work has been completed, with St Martins and OâLoughlins in action. The grounds were in excellent condition, credit is due to all who helped out in recent weeks and on the day.
After the third round of the senior league, Erinâs Own share top spot in group A with James Stephens & Carrickshock on 4pts, with St Lachtainâs, Tullaroan & the Fenians tied on 2pts.
Erinâs Own and St Lachtainâs travelled to Ballyragget on Sunday evening, for a pairing of the 2008 & 2009 intermediate champions. The first half was a shoot out between Martin Boran and Eoin Guinan, with Boran scoring all of his sides seven points and Guinan contributing1-5 for his, Bill Beckett & James Fitzpatrick adding a point each for Lachtainâs, to leave a goal between the sides at half time 1-07 to 0-7.
The Erinâs Own management made a number of positional changes during the interval, which had an immediate impact, Damien Fogarty now operating at centre back, delivered a free in front of the square, Davy Buggy caught and goaled to tie the game. This score started what proved to be the winning sequence of scores, the Comer men added another five points without reply to open up a five point lead. Martin Boran 2f, Davy Buggy 2 and Michael Moran 1 on target, before James Fitzpatrick halted the run with a point for St Lachtainâs. Older Statesmen Buggy, Owens and Ryan were orchestrating proceedings for the Comer side, with the defence closing down the space that the Freshford side had exposed during the first half. Comer again put together a run of four points Ronan Ryan, Aidan Moran, Eddie Brennan and Michael Moran scoring. Davy Brennan replied for Lachtainâs with a well taken goal. Martin Boran converted a free in response.Noel McGree & James Fitzpatrick reduced the deficit to three points with a point apiece, this was Fitzpatrickâs third point from play, impressive considering he was operating at wing back. Damien Fogarty landed a monster free from well inside his own half to stretch the lead back to four. Eoin Guinan landed two points from frees, which were divided by a Ronan Ryan minor to leave the final score 1-19 to 2-13 in favour of the Comer side.

Our Under 8’s had their first outing of the year in the County Board arranged Go Games Blitz in Johns Park, Kilkenny, home of O’Loughlin Gaels. Their numbers were reduced to 10 players per team based on rules put down by the County Board.
Â
The first match was versus Graigue Ballycallan. Comer led at half time one score to nil (goals and points carried the same score). Ground hurling obviously restricted our lads as when they were allowed to rise the ball in the second half they completely took over and ran out clear winners 8 -1. They went on to play Galmoy in the second game and played even better finally winning by 10- 1. The final game had Comer up against Freshford. It was an even first half for a long time 1- 1 was the score then Comer got 2 scores coming up to half time to lead 3 – 1. In the second half defense remained strong and didn’t concede any more scores. They went on the win 8 – 1 to complete a great days work.

Erinâs Own 1-13 James Stephens 0-13
Erinâs Own displayed a steely determination, with a storming second half performance to secure the points against James Stephens in Freshford on Saturday evening.
The Village started strongly registering the first two points courtesy of Brian McEvoy and Niall Tyrell; Ronan Ryan opened the scoring for Comer with a well taken point on 10 mins. Davy Buggy latched on to a loose ball to level matters. Jackie Tyrell was dominant at centre back in the opening half, with Erinâs Own struggling to stop him driving forward with the ball. Eoin Larkin kept the scoreboard ticking with two pointed frees, both following fouls on Jackie Tyrell. Martin Boran scored for Comer from a free after Peader Boran was taken down. Eoin Larkin scored his third point from placed balls to take the score to 0-5 to 0-3 after 20 mins. The closing 10 mins saw the Comer men work hard to restore parity at the interval with two Martin Boran 65s. The Comer side would have been the happier at half time at 5 points all considering the Village had dictated proceedings.
After 10 mins of the restart, the Village had opened up what looked like a match winning lead at 0-10 to 0-5. Both sides made changes with Michael Owens replacing Gordon Byrne & Danny Byrne coming on for the injured Sean Meally for Comer and Eoin McCormack taking Shane Brennanâs place for James Stephens. Martin Boran pulled a point back from a free. Comer made a further change to their half forward line with Brian Dillon replacing Dermot Wallace. Brian McEvoy again put five points between the sides, with his third point. The comer half back line who were delivering quality ball forward, started to see reward for their efforts, when Davy Buggy having been fouled, buried the resulting 21 yard free to the Village net. Game on. This score lifted the Comer side and with Michael Owens and Brian Dillon making a strong impact since their introduction rattled off the next three points courtesy of the Boran brothers, Martin two frees and Peader from play to take the lead for the first time. The Village hit back with a point, Martin Boran & Aidan Moran restored their sideâs advantage. Erinâs Own lost their second full back with Declan Dunne replacing the injured Danny Byrne. With the clock ticking down Eoin Larkin pointed a close range free to leave the minimum between the sides, but Erinâs Own were not to be denied with the impressive Ronan Ryan and Martin Boran closing the game out with a point a piece.
