Erins Own produced a masterclass of hurling in the replay of the Minor A championship to overcome James Stephens by a scoreline of 2 -17 to 0 – 11. It was a comprehensive display throughout and a real polished team performance.
Â
The teams were level enough throughout the first half but comer started to pull away towards the end of the first half following a Stephen Daly goal. It was the second half when they turned up a gear to easily dispose of he Village in the end. Well done to Tommy Brennan and his team for a great performance.
2 teams travelled to Jenkinstown following an invitation from Conahy Gaelic 4 Mothers. 4 Conahy teams and 2 from Comer took part in a very enjoyable day with plenty of games and lots of enjoyment. The Comer 1 team won one and lost one which qualified them for the Shield Final and the Comer 2 team won both of their matches which qualified them for the Cup final. The Shield final went first and Comer were on top from start to finish and won well in the end of a very enjoyable game. The Cup final was also a very tight game with both teams level at half time. Comer took the lead early in the second half but Conahy (Kilkenny) came back strong with 2 goals to win out in the end. Well done to them. Josephine Holland accepted the Shield (Bottle of Champagne) on behalf of Comer.
Â
The players for Comer were; Georgina Smith, Josephine Holland, Alison Kealy, Fiona Maher, Mary Delaney, Catherine Farnan, Mary Rowe, Catriona Allen, Kathleen Hurley, Claire O’Neill, Margaret Hopkins, Majella Finn, Dymphna Maher, Marie Brennan, Catriona Brennan, Julieanne Phelan.
Â
The teams were managed by Andrew Korff and Lilian Boland (for a rub)

Well done to Conahy on a very well run and enjojable day.
The blessing of the new pitch in Ballycomey followed by the celebration of the 125th Anniversary mass took place in a sun drenched Ballycomey on Friday evening 20th August. A big crowd turned out for this very special occasion. The Blessing of the new all weather pitch was first up. Msngr Ryan, Canon Sherlock, Fr Corcoran and Fr Shore all took part in this blessing. The man above certainly played his part as the evening was sunshine all the way.
Â
The Mass followed after the blessing and several club members took part, young and old, to make this a very special night in the long history of Erin’s Own GAA club. Chairman, Michael Owens concluded the official part of the night giving special praise to all who participated including the Male Voice Choir. Finally a big thanks went out to Sean Smith for all his work in keeping the place so well. It was over to the Ladies of the club then to produce a feast of food for all. Well done to every person for donating so much food, and to all the ladies that worked long and hard to ensure all were heartily fed.
Â
Finally Thanks and well done to all who had any part in this successful night. 125 years is a long time in the lifetime of any association and something to be very proud of. The mantle of its success is now passed over to the current and future generations to ensure that Erin’s Own continues to make strides both on and off te field of play and ensure that this clubs participation in all that is good in Castlecomer and its environs continues for many years to come.

It took a combined 200 years to bring these giants of sport together in a match that carried a mix of All Ireland medal winners throughout the teams – and what a match we were entertained with. It was a quality game that you would be unlikely to see anywhere – literally! A bumper crowd turned up for the celebration night. It began with the Golf match where the Hurling Club came up trumps over the Golf club. This was just a warm up to the big event – The over 50 (age and weight in some cases) game. It was a tight game throughout and compliments to every player firstly for togging out and secondly for entertaining everyone on the 10th fairway. The fire brigade was on standby such was the volume of water being consumed. A great game followed with many great scores, misses (Gerry – you really need to practice the sideline!) and collisions – Tom and Jimmy comes to mind at the end. All there were fully entertained and followed into the night with a great BBQ and music. Well done to all for the hard work and imagination for putting such a unique event together.
