Erin’s Own win U-16 Jim Buggy Tournament

Erin’s Own closed the Bord na nOg year out with a success in the local tournament by winning comfortably in the Final versus Dicksboro. The semi finals saw Comer win handily against neighbours St Martins and Dicksboro coming through in the end against John Lockes, Callan.  Comer lost Eoin Brennan through injury but that did not deter them in any way as they took command in the final early on and drove home from there. Congratulations to all involved and to the management team of Eamon Brennan, Paul Rice and Dinny Brennan. Michael Holland said a few words on bahalf of the club and thanked the Buggy Family. Tommy Buggy presented the cup to his son Jim, grandson of Jim Buggy for a suitable and satisfactory finish to a very successful underage season.

 

Big thanks to all of the kitchen staff for the endless work they have put in throughout the year.

Ireland v Australia Score Cards

Score Cards must be returned this Saturday 23rd at the latest as the order for kits has to go in on Monday. A collection point is being set up in Ballycomey between 11am and 12 mid-day so please avail of this. Remember don’t forget to indicate on the card the size of kit you require.

125 year Celebration update

Ticket sales are going strong with great interest in the line up for our 125 year celebration. Everyone is asked to be in at 7.45pm as the Artane Boys Band will be kicking off the night at 8pm sharp. We hope you have a really enjoyable night and a couple of extra surprises are being put together to further enhance your night’s entertainment.

U 16 Jim Buggy Tournament

The first ever Under 16 Jim Buggy Tournament takes place this Saturday 23rd Oct in Ballycomey. It wil lbe a 4 team tournament with the matches as  follows ;

 

10am Erin’s Own v St Martins

11am Callan v Danesfort

 

12.30pm Final

 

Catering will be provided and thanks to the Buggy Family for sponsoring this day.

Kilmacud Crokes U-9 tournament

Erin’s Own U-9s travelled to Dubin on Sunday to compete in the kilmacud Crokes tournament. The boys were paired with James Stephens and Naomh Eanna Gorey. The opening game against the village was fiercly contested, with the city side managing to cling on, to take a narrow win. The Comer boys came flying out off the blocks against Naomh Eanna,openig up an early lead, which they held to the end, booking a shield final place against Sarsfields from Cork. The final mirrored the previous game with the boys taking the lead and holding it to the finish.

Well done to all on a great days hurling.

Senior Semi final

Erin’s Own suffered the heartache of a two point defeat, 1-14 to 1-16 to Carrickshock in the senior semi final on Sunday in Nowlan Park. Comer got off to a flying start opening up a 1-2 0-0 lead in opening quarter. Gordon Byrne opened the scoring with a fine point, following a great catch from Donal Meally. Peader Boran added another, from a Michael Murphy pass. Murphy again was provider, with Martin Boran pouncing on a loose ball to raise the green flag.
Richie Power got his side on the score board from a free. both sides missed missed chances EO 2 and ‘shock 1, before Richie Power struck on the double from frees. The southerners stopped a Comer attack and quickly broke down field, with John Power scoring a goal. Richie Power added another pointed free, with Erin’s Own stopping the sequence, courtesy of a Gordon Byrne point. Michael Rice and David Franks replied with a point each.A Martin Boran point reduced the lead to two, taking a pass from Michael Owens. Jamie Power and another Richie Power free left the half time score 1-8 to 1-4 in their sides favour.
The second Half started with a Riche Power pointed free, a Pat Tennyson point and a Richie Power point from play.
The game appeared to be slipping from the locals with seven points seperating the sides. The lads dug deep scoring five points to pull it back to 1-9 to 1-11, Michael Murphy three 1f, Martin Boran and Ronan Ryan on target.Two Richie Power frees followed by a Martin Boran point and a Damien Fogarty free, left the minimun between the sides. Richie Power was again on target with two frees,split by a Damien Fogarty free, setting up a nail biting finish, with time almost up Davy Buggy was introduced for Jimmy Byrne, but despite their best efforts, Carrickshock held on to win 1-16 to 1-14.
Although a final place eluded the locals, they can look back on another fine season.

U-14 Tara Ryan Tournament

This long running tournament was played on Saturday after a lapse of a number of years. Erin’s Own, St Martin’s, Bennetsbridge and Naas convened on Ballycomey. Erin’s own defeated local rivals St Martin’s in the opening semi final, with Naas edging out Bennetsbridge in the other. the final proved to be a thriller, with the game going down to the wire. The local boys finishing stronger to take the title. Members of the Ryan family travelled from Co.Meath to present the cup to winning captain Donal Carroll. Well done to all.

Gaelic for Mums

Our ladies played a team from Fethard Co.Tipperary on Saturday in Ballycomey, in what was a most entertaining game played in atrocious conditions. Attention now switches to the national blitz in Dublin later in the month.
