Review 08 May

Erin’s Own and O’Loughlins met in the second round of the senior hurling league in Ballyragget on Friday evening, played in wet and windy conditions.

The ‘Comer men come out off the blocks fast registering the first five scores to open up a 0-5 to 0-0 lead. Anthony Owens opened the scoring, Damien Fogarty followed up with a long range free, Michael Owens and Martin Boran added two more from play, with a Michael Murphy free closing the sequence.

O’Loughlins responded with 4 points, three from Mark Bergin, one 65 and two frees and a Martin Comerford point, leaving the minimum between the sides. Damien Fogarty landed another free to leave the half time score 0-6 to 0-4.

The opening exchanges of the second half proved to be a shoot out between the two free takers, with Murphy 4 and Bergin 2 establishing a four point lead for the locals. These were the final scores for the ‘Comer men as O’Loughlins turned a four point defecit into a four point winning margin 0-14 to 0-10.

Underage Hurling

Erin’s Own Under 12 team played O’Loughlins A team recently and the game finished in an exciting draw. This was a very good first outing for this team as a busy season of games lies ahead. They play their first game in the Callan Tournament on Thurs 5th in Ballycomey at 7.30pm. The opponents are O’Loughlins again – This time their B team.

The Under 10 team played St Martins in a challenge on Bank Holiday Monday and came out on top by 6-4 to 1-6. It was a very good all round team performance. It followed up on an equally good performance against Kilmacud Corkes a couple of weeks ago when they fell short by a single point.

The Under 8’s have a couple of blitz’s lined up in the coming weeks. we will keep you posted.

Round up 01-05

Erin’s Own bowed out of the Leinster League on Saturday evening in Ballycomey. The locals had a good run in the competition, but Clara were the better team on the day.

Our junior b hurlers faced St Lachtains in a league game also in Ballycomey on Friday, with St Lachtains coming out on top.

St Lachtains again proved the opposition at U-16 level last Wednesday, with the minimun seperating the sides after an absorbing game.
