Club News 26th Feb 2012

Fantasy Cheltenham.
The 3rd Annual Fantasy Cheltenham fundraiser run by Erin’s Own GAA Club is
now getting closer and closer with only just over twenty days to the off.
For €20.00 you have an interest in sixteen races over the first four days of
Cheltenham and with a prize fund of €6,000.00 you are in with a great chance
of picking up some winnings. The club have set out ambitious plans in their
recent Strategic Plan and the Cheltenham Fundraiser goes directly to future
development work at Ballycomey and the Prince Grounds. We would ask all
members and supporters to buy a Fantasy Cheltenham ticket from any of the
promoters.
For the smooth running of the Fantasy Cheltenham week we require up to
twenty volunteers per day in our call centre in Ballycomey. If you can
answer a phone and can offer your services for some or all of the four days
of racing from 9am until 1.30pm please contact Eamonn on 087 2720158 or John
at 087 2299555.

Senior Football. Erin’s Own Senior footballers suffered defeat for the
second week in a row in the Senior Football Championship/League when the
entertained Mooncoin in Canon Kearn’s Park on Saturday on a scoreline of
1-10 to 1-07. Comer started brightly and had much of the possession during
the first half. With Gordan Byrne proving to be a handful for the Mooncoin
backs Comer dominated and went to the half time break in front. However they
couldn’t build on this in the second half and when they Comer boys conceded
a soft goal it was the Mooncoin team who finished stronger and ran out

Club Lotto. The club lotto is now up to €11,450. Be in to win. Get your
tickets from any committee members or from local shops. You can also sign up
to a direct debit scheme whereby you are entered every week in the Local
lotto so you don’t have to worry about getting your ticket. Contact Helen at
087 6645022 or any committee member if you would like to take up this way to
play the local lotto. Remeber all the money raised goes back into your
community.

Juvenile Coaching. The indoor training for the Under 6s and 8s in the
Community School Gym is back now every Monday at 6.15pm. This is open to all
boys and girls and we would welcome any new boys and girls who would like to
come along and try out hurling as new members are always welcome. All

The Under 10s are now back in full swing also every Monday evening in
Heywood College, Ballinakill from 6.30 until 7.30pm. Contact Eamonn at 087
2720158 .
The Under 12s and the schools team will be training indoors also in Heywood
College, Ballinakill every Monday evening from 7.30pm until 8.30pm. All
players meet at Rowes Hardware at 7pm. Contact John at 087 2299555.

Juvenile Coaching Course. The second day of the Juvenile Coaching Course
(Skills Session) takes place this Saturday at 10am in Ballycomey for all
those who have completed day one. Please bring a Tracksuit, Boots/Runners
and a hurl.

Registration Day/Membership
. Registration for all members takes place this
Saturday in Canon Kearns Park, Ballycomey from 2pm to 4pm for all juvenile
members and 4 to 6 pm for adult members. All players from Under 6 up must be
fully paid up and registered. All membership is now being taken up. Contact
any committee member.

Club Lotto.

The club lotto is now up to €11,300. Be in to win. Get your tickets from any committee members or from local shops. Community Social

Erin’s Own had a wonderful social night in Langtons last Friday Night. The crowd were treated to a beautiful meal followed by comedian Joe Rooney who set the tone for the night with a great performance, followed by the fabulous Big Uptown Big Band till late. There were a number of presentations to representatives of County Panels and a special presentation to Josephine Holland on behalf of the Ladies Football Committee as an acknowledgement of the terrific work she has undertaken and achieved since the formation of the Gaelic for mothers. Overall this was a great night and well done to all who organised it and attented.

First Aid Course.
The club organised its second first Aid Course for all club coaches/members last Saturday in the club rooms in Ballycomey. The club now has over 20 members who are qualified in First Aid now. Well done to all and there will be a presentation of all certificates for those who qualified shortly.

The under 14s received a walkover in the 2nd round of the Football league from Kilmacow on Saturday. They will have another round this weekend. Please see the fixtures pages of the KIlkenny People for details. They will continue to train on Thursdays in the Prince Grounds.

Community Social Erin’s Own invites all the community to their annual social night this weekend. The club has set up a fantastic nights entertainment in Langtons Ballroom on this Friday the 17th February commencing at 8.30pm. The lineup consists of Dinner followed by Comedian Joe Rooney followed by dancing to the fantastic 7 piece Uptown Big Band till late. Tickets for this great night are only €15.00 euro and we would encourage and welcome all the community to come along. First Aid Course.
The club will be organising a further first Aid Course for all club coaches/members who are interested this coming Saturday in the club rooms in Ballycomey. Twelve Members have now completed the course. If you are interested please contact Mike at 087 6815488.

The Cheltenham Committee have been meeting regularly for the ten to twelve weeks and there appears to be great interest from many clubs all over Ireland to be associated with this great fun fundraiser. For €20.00 you have an interest in sixteen races over the first four days of Cheltenham and with a prize fund of €6,000.00 you are in with a great chance of picking up some winnings. The club have set out ambitious plans in their recent Strategic Plan and the Cheltenham Fundraiser goes directly to future development work at Ballycomey and the Prince Grounds. Coaching Course for Coaches. Last Saturday the clubs Bord Na Nog hosted a coaching course Level 1 day in Ballycomey under the supervision of Brian Ryan and James Maher (Kilkenny County Board Coaches). It proved to be a very beneficial day with thirteen coaches in attendance. All coaches will receive their certificates once the practical session is completed on the 3rd March. Those who attented were Tommy Bugg, Pat Clarke, Colm Meagher, Eamonn Holland, Tommy Nolan, John Buggy, Richard Connolly, Martin Rowe, Eamonn Doyle, Michael Holland, Andrew Kroff, Brendan Holden and Eamonn Connery. Well done lads.
