Erins Own LGFC Under 14 team Feile June 2015

Erins Own LGFC Under 14 team recently took part in Feile 15 in Wexford . They performed excellently falling short in their first 2 matches by just a single point and an exciting extra time victory in the third game (shield qtr final) ensured a Sunday morning game in the Shield semi-final. Unfortunately they came up short to a stronger Old Leighlin side. They returned home with their heads held high and did their club and families proud. They had a fantastic weekend and congratulations to all involved from players, coaches, families and to the many sponsors for the weekend, some of which are listed below.

U14 Erin’s Own Girls Gaelic Football Team

The U 14 Erin’s Own Girls Gaelic football team will travel to Wexford town
in late June to take part in Feile 2015 under the management of John Cahalan
and his mentors, Eugene Dowling, John Moore & Fiona Maher.
This is an exciting challenge for the young girls, most of whom are only
playing Gaelic for 1-2 years. The team are presently doing well in the
Carlow League and train weekly in either the Prince or Ballycomey.
The Gaelic football club has become an important part of close to 100 girls
lives in Castlecomer and surrounding parishes, ranging from U 8 up to Junior
level. They have a nice collection of silverware to boast after a short time
on the football scene, huge recognition for this must go to Andy Korff who
got it off the ground in 2012.

Ballyboden St Enda’s U15 Tournament May 2015

Erin’s Own U15 team ran out winners of a high calibre tournament held by Ballyboden St Enda’s in memory of Cian Durkin, a young playing member who sadly passed away from illness. Comer’s first match pitted them against Mallow from Cork. A great start to this match allowed the comer lads to keep mallow at a steady distance as the went on to win by 8 points. They only had 15 mins to turnaround for the second match versus Toomevara from Tipperary. This was their best game and settled in right from the off and went on to win comfortably in the end by 15 points. Comer had qualified for the final against the hosts who had earlier seen off Oulart the Ballagh from Wexford and Ballygunner from Waterford.

The final proved to be a very tight encounter and defences won the day here as the scoreline would suggest but the difference in the end was Comer’s ability to take their scores from placed balls and play against the hosts inability to do so when under pressure when attempting their shots.

As opposed to naming anyone in particular this was an excellent all round performance by all 19 players who travelled and they are all a huge credit to their club and also only the second Kilkenny team to win this prestigious tournament.

Panel as follows; Nicky Connolly, Billy O’Neill, Dan Coogan, Lee Holden, Christopher Korff, Cathal Holland (Capt), Liam Holland, Conor McMahon, Jack Buggy, Kevin Holland, Declan Buggy, Kevin Brennan, James Brennan, James Buggy, Jamie Maher, Darragh O’Rourke, Killian Hogan, Kevin Smith, Thomas Judge.

Management; John Buggy, Eamon Hollland, Tommy Buggy.

Thanks to all parents who travelled and helped in various jobs and roles throughout the day.

U14 Roinn A League 17.04.2015

Erin’s Own under 14s got their 2015 Roinn A league campaign off to a winning start on Friday last when the locals entertained Danesfort in Canon Kearns Park. The Comer boys played with the brisk wind in the first half and suffered a set back early on when conceding a goal in the first 5 minutes. After conceding this early score the local boys knocked over two good points courtesy of Jack Buggy from play and a free. With the Comer backs starting to get on top there was a plentiful supply of good ball going into the forwards and they were beginning to make it pay. After a great move up the left hand side of the field a speculative ball into the Danesfort goalmouth Daragh O Rourke was the quickest to react to register a major score for the locals. Sometimes a goal can be worth more than 3 points and this was one occasion where that is true. This score totally settled down the Comer boys throughout the field and they began to hurl with much more efficency for the rest of the half. Jack Buggy kept the scoreboard ticking over with a point from a lineball and a good goal from play after a good run through the centre by Conor Clarke. With our half back line of Christopher Korff, Thomas Judge and the very impressive Kevin Holland now winning alot of ball and setting up attack after attack the Comer forwards had plenty of ball to work with. Before half time Danesfort put alot of pressure on our backs and they were rewarded with a goal and a point despite the best efforts of Nicky Connoly in goals and our full back line of Luca Downey, Dan Coogan and Billy O Neill. Just before the half ended Kealan Ring forced home a goal to leave the locals with a comfortable and well deserved half time lead of 3-6 to 2-2. The Comer boys started the second half well and again Kevin Holland popped up with a lovely interception and great ball to Jack Buggy for him to extend the the Comer lead to eight points. With Dan Coogan, Kevin Holland, Christopher Korff, Billy O Neill, Jack Buggy, Killian Hogan and Conor Clarke totally dominant the Danesfort attack were finding it extremely hard to get the scores they badly needed to get back into the game. However they did register a goal and a point from play mid way through the half to keep them in the match. However from here to the finish the Comer attack and midfield took over completely and with the moving of Jamie Maher to full forward and Lee Holden out to half forward the scoreboard started to clock up with Jamie Maher shooting two great goals and a point, Jack Buggy with another goal and Kevin Smyth with a another the gap became too big for the Danesfort boys to bridge. Jamie Maher added a lovely individual point and Jack Buggy pointed a free and one more from play to close out the scoring on a final score of 7-8 to 4-3. This was a real team effort with all the team and substitutes contribution. TEAM. Nicky Connolly,Billy O Neill, Dan Coogan, Luca Downey, Kevin Holland Christopher Korff, Thomas Judge, Conor Clarke, Lee Holden, Jack Buggy, (2-6)Kealan Ring,(1-1) Kevin Smyth, (1-0)Killian Hogan, Jamie Maher(2-1) Daragh O Rourke,(1-0 ).SUBS USED. U14 Roinn A Championship Final Oct 2014

Firstly congratulations to all the panel for getting as far as they did but in the end comisserations to them as they came up against an extremely strong and talented O’Loughlin’s side who started as they meant to go on and overpowered our lads to go on to a comprehensive vicotry.

The Comer boys were hoping to gain revenge after losing the league final to the same opponents but it turned out to be just one of those days when no matter what was attempted just didn’t pay off. Everyone tried their best and in their normal commendable spirit never gave up right to the final whistle.

Well done to all involved and onwards and upwards from here for this talended group of Comer players.

Thanks to our sponsors for the day; John Buggy Auctioneers, Billy Moran Architect and Wille Forde, Eurospar.
