Congratulations to all the local winners from Fantasy Cheltenham 2015. In total Erin’s Own had 30 winners with Donal Dunne (Runners) giving it a great go right to the end for the overall prize. Thanks to all our hard working committee members with special note to Martin Carroll for providing the Enterprise Centre as a centre of operation again this year.  Thanks also to all members and their families who helped in any way throughout the campaign. Excellent as ever. Thanks also to Castlecomer Community School transition year students, to Peter O’Donovan and Delia O’Donohue for their ongoing support.  To Ticket Sellers and to the people who purchased Tickets, particularly members and parents. This fundraiser is directly focussed on the new development in Ballycomey. Every cent raised goes towards this development that all of our members and their families will hopefully be able to avail of. Finally thanks to all participant clubs for their enthusiasm and support and in turn we hopefully are providing each of you with an important source for ongoing fundraising.

March 2014 – Newsletter

The middle of March saw the staging by Erin’s Own GAA Club of their 5th annual Fantasy Cheltenham. This novel fundraiser is now known and played the length and breath of Ireland and around the world by players on line. With associated clubs, charities and other organisations all over Ireland benefitting from the venture everyone was a winner even if some of their horses didn’t come in. With close on a six figure sum turned over the big prize money from a total prize fund of €10,000 euro went to Graiguenamanagh GAA club where they had the 1st and 2nd placed players overall with one of their players playing the game from Western Australia.
The popularity of Fantasy Cheltenham has placed Erin’s Own GAA at the top of novel fundraisers that clubs wish to be involved in. With over forty participating clubs including many neighbouring clubs this is indeed a fantastic and fun way for any organisation to raise much needed funds to run their clubs.
A very hard working committee of less than ten excellent club members of Erin’s Own GAA had been meeting for months leading up to the festival. Groups of lads headed all over the countryside selling and promoting the game to interested clubs with some great stories and connections with clubs all over Ireland.
When the flag fell on the first days racing in excess of 5,000 players had signed up to play Fantasy Cheltenham 2014. And the chance to win €10,000.00 over the four days if Cheltenham.
Probably the best decision the committee made in the last few years was to move the call centre to the new Enterprise Centre on the Kilkenny road and this proved to be a master stroke. With up to 25 club volunteers per day on duty, the comfort of the premises, computer network services available and canteen facilities available made this the ideal location to run this event from. A special word of thanks to Mr. Martin Carroll, the enterprise centre manager whose help and co-operation was of the highest order all week.
Fantasy Cheltenham 2014 was an outstanding success on every level and generated a substantial five figure sum for Erin’s Own Gaa and the community of Castlecomer as all the money raised from this fundraiser will go directly to the new development at our club grounds in Ballycomey which is well under way. This development includes new dressing rooms, Showers, Public toilets, first aid rooms, Machinery Sheds, Stores, Ball Wall and an extensive Gymnasium which we hope will be opened up to the whole community. When completed this will add significantly to the present facilities that the club enjoys. A special word of thanks to all the parents of our juvenile members who gave up their time to help run the call centre during week, the students from Castlecomer Community School TY year and especially the management group who run Fantasy Cheltenham so professionally. Please take a bow.
Plans will shortly be put in place for Fantasy Cheltenham 2015, so until then thanks to all our members and supporters who got involved in selling or playing the game. Well done to all.

Fantasy Cheltenham 2014

Last weekend saw the staging of another very successful 5th Annual   Fantasy Cheltenham run by Erin s Own GAA club. This novel fundraiser is now known and played the length and breath of Ireland by participating Clubs, organisations and charities. It’s popularity has placed Erins Own GAA at the very top of novel fundraisers that clubs wish to be involved in. With participants from twenty counties around Ireland and up to fifteen neighbouring clubs this is indeed a great fun way for clubs to generate much needed income to run their clubs and organisations.

This hardworking committee have been meeting for many months leading up to the festival. Groups of club volunteers headed all over the Country selling and promoting the idea to interested clubs. When the flag fell on the first days racing last Tuesday, in excess of 5,000 people had signed up to play Fantasy Cheltenham 2014 and the chance to win 10,000 euro over the four days of Cheltenham. One of major positive decisions the committee made was to move our call centre to the Enterprise Centre and this proved to be a masterstroke. With up to twenty five volunteers per day on duty on behalf of our club, the comfort of the premises, computer network services available and canteen facilities etc made this the ideal location to run this event from.

A special word of thanks to Mr. Martin Carroll, The centre Manager whose help all week was of the highest order and contributed to the success of the event. Fantasy Cheltenham 2014  was an outstanding success on every level and generated a substantial sum for our club and the new development of new Dressing Rooms, Showers, Public Toilets, Machinery Shed, Ball Wall and extensive Gym that has now commenced in Ballycomey. When completed this will add significantly to the present facilities that the club enjoys. A special word of thanks to all the parents of our juvenile members who gave up their time to help run the centre during the week, students from Castlecomer Community School for their efforts and the Management group who run Fantasy Cheltenham. Plans will shortly be put in place for Fantasy Cheltenham 2015 and until then thanks to all our own members who also bought and played the game.

Well done to all.
