Great day had by all – bus trip 2011

At 9am on Sunday morning 2 full bus loads of supporters under the Bord nanOg banner travelled to Dublin for what turned out to be a wonderful day had by all.

The first stop was at Kilmacud Crokes where a combination of under 8’s and under 9’s split into 2 teams and everyone played a full match as Kilmacud had similar numbers. The first team won their match by 2 goals to 1 thanks to a couple of great strikes by Alan Smyth. To concede one goal over 40 minutes shows what great defending was done with Brian Holland, Dean Bray and Ewan Connery starring in the backs and John and James Kenny winning the midfield battles. Panel: Thomas Judge, Dean Bray, Brian Holland, Ewan Connery, Katie Clarke, John Kenny, Michael Rowe, Dylan Stynes Leigh, Kiel Smyth, Alan Smyth, James Kenny, and Joe Rowe.

Our other Under 9 team won their match by 5-00 to 3-04, again a result built on great defending by Darragh O’Rourke, Adam Stone, Ciaran Meagher and Cathal O’Reilly. Our goals came from James Hogan and two each for Timmy Ward and Shane Coogan. Panel: Ciaran Meagher, Adam Stone, Liam Doyle, Luca Downey, Jack Brennan, Cathal O’Reilly, Conor Dowd, Shane Coogan, James Hogan, Kevin Smyth, Shannon Feehan, Darragh O’Rourke and Timmy Ward.

The Under 11 team played a 15 a side game against a strong and very talented Kilmacud side. Comer started poorly and were down by the half time whistle. A great second half performance in a high quality game saw the comer lads play a level second half but never got to make up the first half defecit. Well done to all involved. Jamie Maher, Liam Holland, Dan Coogan, Billy O’Neill, Kevin Holland, Cathal Holland, Conor McMahon, Conor Clarke, Kevin Brennan, Killian Hogan, Kealin Ring, Nicky Connolly, James Brennan, David Ferris, Jack Buggy, James Buggy and Christopher Korff.

Sincere thanks to Kilmacud Crokes who managed to feed all before going on our way to Croke Park. In what turned out to be a beautiful day, lots of sun cream was passed back and forth to keep the pale Irish skin as pale as possible! It was great to see Robert Moran getting a run with the minor team. They came up short in the end against a very strong Dublin Side. The Senior team performed magnificantly to run out relatively easy winners on the day. Well done to Martin and Conor fogarty for their part in the win.

The big prize of the day went to Richie Brennan who lined out in the schools half time game. Chants of “Richie”, “Richie” could be heard. He played brilliantly and managed to score 2 goals as well.

Finally sincere thanks to the people who organised the event, John Buggy in particular, without whom this may not have taken place. Thanks also to Denis Buggy and Joe Comerford for their ongoing and wonderful support to our club.
