U14 Hurling Championship

On Saturday last Erins Own Under 14s took on Bennettsbridge in the first round of the under14 championship in well appointed Jenkinstown. The Comer boys went about their business from the first attack and were a goal to the good when Dan Coogan finished off a good move to the net which involved a number of excellent passes leading to the score. Bennettsbridge replied with a couple of minor scores to keep them in touch early on. However the Comer forwards who were getting a good supply of ball from out the field were punishing the Bennettsbridge defence at every occasion. Further major scores from James Brennan, John Dowd and Thomas Dwyer with points from John Dowd Jack Buggy and frees from James Brennan gave the locals a half time lead of 4-6 to 1-4. Early in the second half the Erins Own lads put the game beyond doubt when Dan Coogan found the net again followed by two more big scores from James Brennan and the aforementioned Dan Coogan. However the Bennettsbridge boys kept going to the end and were rewarded with a couple of good goals. When the Comer boys added a couple more good scores the opened up the gap between the teams midway through the second half.  From here till the end the locals kept the score board tipping over with some lovely points. The final scoreline was Erins Own 7-13 to Bennettsbridge 4-6. This was a great overall team performance from the boys in blue and now go forward to the quarter finals in two weeks time. PANEL.
