Erin’s Own under 14s got their 2015 Roinn A league campaign off to a winning start on Friday last when the locals entertained Danesfort in Canon Kearns Park. The Comer boys played with the brisk wind in the first half and suffered a set back early on when conceding a goal in the first 5 minutes. After conceding this early score the local boys knocked over two good points courtesy of Jack Buggy from play and a free. With the Comer backs starting to get on top there was a plentiful supply of good ball going into the forwards and they were beginning to make it pay. After a great move up the left hand side of the field a speculative ball into the Danesfort goalmouth Daragh O Rourke was the quickest to react to register a major score for the locals. Sometimes a goal can be worth more than 3 points and this was one occasion where that is true. This score totally settled down the Comer boys throughout the field and they began to hurl with much more efficency for the rest of the half. Jack Buggy kept the scoreboard ticking over with a point from a lineball and a good goal from play after a good run through the centre by Conor Clarke. With our half back line of Christopher Korff, Thomas Judge and the very impressive Kevin Holland now winning alot of ball and setting up attack after attack the Comer forwards had plenty of ball to work with. Before half time Danesfort put alot of pressure on our backs and they were rewarded with a goal and a point despite the best efforts of Nicky Connoly in goals and our full back line of Luca Downey, Dan Coogan and Billy O Neill. Just before the half ended Kealan Ring forced home a goal to leave the locals with a comfortable and well deserved half time lead of 3-6 to 2-2. The Comer boys started the second half well and again Kevin Holland popped up with a lovely interception and great ball to Jack Buggy for him to extend the the Comer lead to eight points. With Dan Coogan, Kevin Holland, Christopher Korff, Billy O Neill, Jack Buggy, Killian Hogan and Conor Clarke totally dominant the Danesfort attack were finding it extremely hard to get the scores they badly needed to get back into the game. However they did register a goal and a point from play mid way through the half to keep them in the match. However from here to the finish the Comer attack and midfield took over completely and with the moving of Jamie Maher to full forward and Lee Holden out to half forward the scoreboard started to clock up with Jamie Maher shooting two great goals and a point, Jack Buggy with another goal and Kevin Smyth with a another the gap became too big for the Danesfort boys to bridge. Jamie Maher added a lovely individual point and Jack Buggy pointed a free and one more from play to close out the scoring on a final score of 7-8 to 4-3. This was a real team effort with all the team and substitutes contribution. TEAM.
